The last opportunity to volunteer November just happened and it was a huge success. Last Friday, November 30, 2018, as a club we went to Joni & Friends, where we helped gain donations for their ministry. Joni and Friends was the perfect way to spend a Friday afternoon with the club. Although only a few of us were able to attend we still had an amazing time and it’s always rewarding to know you did something good. Not only was it interesting it was also easy. We spent an hour preparing papers to mail off and bonding. Which was a great way to become closer with us AV key clubbers. Hopefully, we will be going back because the lady guiding us was very helpful! Happy new year Blue Devils! We have some exciting events to kick off 2018: a district wide service event (DWS) and the election of the new Lieutenant Governor at Conclave. This month's DWS is at Living Arroyos which is an organization working towards cleaning up creeks in the Livermore-Amador Valley. Members will be participating in planting trees around Livermore. This will be held on Saturday, January 20th from 9AM until 12PM. It will be taking place at Arroyo las Positas at Bluebell Drive (Bluebell Drive and Scenic Ave, Livermore, CA). As well as the service event, the January DCM is coming up soon, and this time it will be extra exciting because it is the election of the new LTG! For those who are still not sure what "LTG" means, the LTG is the Lieutenant Governor of our district (lets go D26S!). Currently, our LTG is Jonathan Lum, who you may have seen at various district events. At the January DCM, you will be able to experience the in-action handing off of the LTG position for the 2018-2019 term. Don't miss out on this great experience! You'll find this DCM on Sunday, January 29 from 10:30AM to 3:30PM at Danville Grange Hall (743 Diablo RD, Danville, CA 94526). Also, since this DCM is already a bit different from the others, the attire is business wear (a nice blouse, slacks etc.). With all of these exciting events taking over January, I hope you are as excited as I am for this great new term! Happy December Blue Devils! On Friday, December first, Amador Valley Key Club met at the Ridgeview Commons Senior Center to participate in volunteering for Open Heart Kitchen. Open Heart Kitchen is a non-profit organization that provides meals for people and families in need throughout the Tri-Valley. Being my first time volunteering at a senior center and working in a kitchen, it was a heart-warming and rewarding experience. Our club of eight people was split up into groups, each sent to perform different activities to help the seniors-- serving food, cleaning dishes, mopping the floors-- plenty of activities to keep each person busy. I was put into the task of plating food. I was so surprised how time never seemed to slow in this place-- there was never one second where I or anyone else was left with nothing to do. It really made me think how non-profits such as this have so much man-power behind the scenes which are never truly thought about in the public view. For example, Beckie, the woman in charge of training and looking after the volunteers, was always busy but never used that as an excuse to prepare a meal less than restaurant-quality. Her constant enthusiasm and concern over the seniors was truly inspiring to see and makes me wonder how I can improve myself to be as selfless and amazing as she is. Even though our time volunteering at OHK was short, it truly made an impact on not only myself but the rest of our club as well and I hope we will be able to help out again! If you missed this service event and still want to participate in serving the community, OHK accepts donations year-round!
Happy almost December Blue Devils! Hopefully Thanksgiving break was filled with family and fun, and even though school is starting back up again, the fun does not have to stop because Amador Valley Key Club has a new service event! You definitely don't want to miss this one-- the event will be taking place at Open Heart Kitchen at the Ridgeview Commons Senior Center on December 1st from 3:30 until 6:30. This will be a great event to attend to earn service hours while also actively helping the community by preparing meals and serving the seniors. If transportation is a problem, this event will be easy to carpool to because it occurs right after school on Friday. Go ahead and register at this link: https://goo.gl/forms/22pZksEOTsCy1fhz1
Happy November Blue Devils! Congratulations- we've made it past the first 3 months of school! Hopefully everyone isn't too stressed out, but if you are in need for a day of relaxing and joining in some key club family fun make sure to come to the November DCM! This DCM (Division Council Meeting) is absolutely perfect for all of you newbie key clubbers who are still unsure what it really means to be a "key clubber." This meeting will discuss what Key Club is really about-- to help you guys understand that Key Club is so much more than going to Six Flags or simply meeting every other Friday at lunch. This DCM will take place on Sunday, November 12th from 9:30 AM to 2:30 PM at Dublin High School in their Student Union (8151 Village Pkwy, Dublin, CA 94568). Linked below will be the form to register for the DCM where you can also choose a lunch option! I know school has been extremely stressful since we have passed the first quarter, but I hope everyone can find time in their busy schedules to attend this month's DCM-- not only will you learn more about Key Club but it is also a great opportunity to meet more people in Division 26 South. Hope to see you all there!
Registration Link: https://goo.gl/forms/ePuy1LOAxfqZvtjt2 Hey Blue Devils! I hope this week has been amazing for all of you, but what will make it even better is the upcoming Spirit Social! This social will be from 2-4 PM at Emerald Glen Park on October 14. This event will help you guys learn and practice the cheers for Fall Rally North which is coming up in a few days on the 21st. It's also a great opportunity to meet more people from Division 26 South as well. Make sure to save the date and bring your spirit! See you there!
Hey Key Clubbers! In case you missed it, the yearly Regional Training Conference (RTC) just passed from September 30 through October 1. During this two day course, Key Clubs from regions 9 and 17 came together and became "Storytellers of Service"- learning what it truly means to serve the community as a Key Clubber. Members attended training sessions and lectures to learn more about officer positions as well as sessions on time management, stress relief and "bee-lieving" in yourself. Not only did members get to experience lectures from amazing charities and members of the Kiwanis family as well, but they got to meet new people and exercise their spirit. If you did not make it to RTC 2017, I definietly recommend going next year! Here is a short video recap of the amazing time Division 26 South had during RTC 2017. Video credit goes to Jielin Eeo and Courtney La. Hi members! Please click here to access the dues form. Print it out, attach your $12, and return to an officer as soon as possible! Contact us if the link does not work for you.
This year, Amador Valley is proud to re-introduce two officer positions - Editor and Fundraising/Service Coordinator! Both of these positions are extremely important to the wellbeing for our club.
Roles: Editor - manages social media, website, submits visuals (photos, videos) and articles (think of blog type writing) to the division. Fundraising/Service Coordinator - collaborates with officer board, namely the VP and treasurer, to come up with service events and fundraising ideas for our home club and charities. We will be discussing the roles more in-depth in the meetings to come. After, we will be holding interviews for interested applicants and be selecting them soon after our first meeting.
